Music on the World Wide Web:
There are many quality web sites that contain information of interest to music researchers. However, these websites are not necessarily easy to locate because the Internet contains so much information which may not be true, may be biased, designed for children, or useless to the researcher. When using information from the Internet you will need to act as the reviewer for each web site you look at since there are no rules governing what can be published.

AUTHORITY.
        If the page lists the author credentials and its domain is preferred (.edu, .org, .gov)
OBJECTIVITY.
        If the page provides accurate and objective information,
ACCURACY.
        If the page lists the author and institution that published the page and provides a way of contacting him/her,
CURRENCY.
       
If the page is current and updated regularly (as stated on the page) and the links (if any) are also up-to-date,
CONTENT/ RELEVANCY.
        If the page meets your research needs, is college level, and the subject is adequately covered,
AESTHETICS.
        If the page has a balance of images and graphics, is visually appealing,

Subject Portals This page leads to a variety of subject indexes, often maintained by universities, which offer a brief annotation and possibly some evaluation, of recommended websites.  However, even these sites will need to be carefully evaluated by the user before using.
