To see if an article is from a peer-reviewed journal:
 | Check the journal itself-- usually there will be information about the publisher
and/or instructions for contributors and there are often policy statements that will
help you figure out if a journal sends potential articles out for peer-review (or
refereeing) before they are published. |
 | Check the publisher or journal web site. Usually you can just do a web search
for publisher or journal title. Many journals do have a web site listing policies
and/or instructions for authors. For example,
Annals
of Botany home page links you to Information for Authors and Editorial Board
pages. |
 | Use
Ulrich's
International Periodicals Database:
 | Once connected to the database, click on "Index" button on right of
screen |
 | Use arrow to switch from "General Index" to "Browsable Title
Index" |
 | Enter the journal name with each word separated by -, e.g., Journal-of-Ecology,
and click on "Go to Term" |
 | Click on journal title from list, then choose to view complete journal record |
 | Look for field labeled SF. If the word "Refereed" appears there,
the journal uses reviewers before publishing articles, most likely peer reviewers. |
