BIOLOGY: FAQ

bulletCan I search for articles within a particular journal using the article databases?
bulletUsually this is possible if a journal is indexed by a database, although techniques may vary. Many databases have lists of journals indexed linked from the database information screen, which is what you link to from the Biology: Articles page of this web.
bulletAgricola, Biological & Agricultural Index, and Geobase: Use the advanced search option and search or browse the journal name in the Source or Source Phrase index. You can add a subject using the other search boxes, or go back to the Search screen and click on Previous Searches to combine sets.
bulletBiological Abstracts: In the Journal Name box, type the title of the journal.
bulletAcademic Search Elite: Specify the journal on the search screen, e.g., limit the current search to the following journal: "Ecological Monographs".
bulletScience Direct: You can browse a particular journal or you can use basic search for Term: Title of Journal    Within: Journal Name.
bulletWiley Interscience: You can restrict the search to a subset, e.g., Life & Medical Sciences, but not to an individual journal. You can browse the tables-of-contents for individual journals using the journal finder.
bulletZoological Record: Use the index button, enter the journal name using hyphens between words, e.g., journal-of-ecology, then click on the name in the resulting list.  This will form a set of all articles within the journal which can then be combined with a subject set.
