SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) and NAICS (North American Industrial Classification System) Codes
In order to find out the competition for a certain company or to compare company performance against industry performance, the SIC or the NAICS for a company is necessary as most basic business references are organized by these numbers.

Electronic Databases
All databases are accessible in the library through the Electronic Information Resources page.

• D&B Million Dollar Directory lists companies alphabetically.  Primary and secondary SIC codes are listed under each company.
• Lexis Nexis Company Profiles   is a searchable directory of companies.  Each company has an SIC code and the directory is searchable by SIC code. 
• Lexis Nexis also has an NAICS/SIC lookup table and converter.
• Free sources for looking up NAICS codes are available at http://www.naics.com/search.htm and http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/naics.html.
• Free sources for looking up SIC codes are available at http://www.osha.gov/pls/imis/sicsearch.html
  NOTE:  Codes for individual codes are not available at these free websites.  The sites only provide codes for industries.
