Books are a primary means of communicating research and studies. To find books on your topic, you may wish to consult some of the online catalogs listed below. These catalogs have the capability for you to download and e-mail records. The text of these books, however, is not available directly on the online catalogs. For books in print owned by the Pollak Library, it is necessary to check the shelves in person. In the event that a book is not available directly from the Pollak Library, you have the option to request it through interlibrary loan (ILLiad).
Pollak Library Catalog
Provides bibliographic descriptions of books, journals, government documents, and other materials owned by CSUF. It also gives the necessary information you will need to find the material on the shelves, including location, call number, and status.
The Pollak Library online catalog also offers access to Internet resources, which can be accessed from both campus and home. For example, a collection of e-books covering a variety of subjects, including counseling and psychology, is available via the Pollak Library online catalog through resources such as NetLibrary.
WorldCat
Provides bibliographic descriptions of books, journals, government documents, and other materials owned by libraries worldwide that contribute their records to OCLC (Online Computer Library Center), the largest bibliographic utility in the world. Books not available at the Pollak Library may be requested through ILLiad. A public version of WorldCat, known as WorldCat.org, is also available online. More information is available by clicking here.
The Catalog of the CSU Libraries
Serves as the union catalog for the libraries of the California State University campuses. In addition to searching the online catalogs of all CSU libraries using traditional techniques (e.g., keyword, author, title, subject), users are provided the opportunity to refine their searches according to characteristics such as location, type of media, language, and publication date.
Melvyl
Serves as the union catalog for the libraries of the University of California campuses. It also provides the ability to access lists of electronic journal titles for UC campuses and other libraries. In addition, users are able to access the online catalogs of individual UC campus libraries as well as other libraries, such as the California State Library, the libraries of the State of California, CSU libraries, the California Academy of Sciences, and The Getty Research Library.
Further Information
The "Find Books" link under the "Research" tab on the Pollak Library homepage offers a list of available online catalogs, some of which have been referenced above. In addition, further information is available on topics of interest such as
e-books, Library of Congress (LC) Classification, and how to read a call number.
