                             Locating Newspaper Articles Online:   


PROQUEST NEWSPAPERS: Full text of 300+ US and international news sources
        Example: New York Times (Publication Title)
                       Terrorism and prevent* (citation and document text)
                       Police (document title)
                         
A few search hints for Proquest:
       * Is the truncation symbol. example
educat* will find educator, educated, and education     
       ? will replace one letter example: wom?n to find woman or women
       ?? will replace two letters. example
educat?? to find educator and educated
       Use quotation marks for phrases longer than two words. example: "first amendment rights"
        +  for searching plural of a word. example
murder+

LEXIS/NEXIS ACADEMIC: Contains newspapers, laws, court cases, business information
To limit your search to your newspaper:
   
1. Click on News
    2. Click on the radial button "Terms and Connectors",
    3. Change the drop down box from "Anywhere in the document", to "publication field"
    4. Enter the name of the newspaper
    5. Notice the default for date is "previous three months," change as needed   

A few search hints for Lexis/Nexis:
        w/#  proximity searching. example: drug w/5 test or Milton w/2 Gordon
        w/s  the two words are to be found in the same sentence. example doctor w/s malpractice
        w/p the two words are to be found in the same paragraph. example New Orleans w/p hurricane
        ! is the truncation symbol used. example: employ! will find employers, employment, employee
       
This database will automatically search plurals of a word. example gun or guns

Los Angeles Times......
Proguest 1985 to current,
New York Times...........
Proquest 1980 to current,
Philadelphia Inquirer...
Proquest 2006 to current & Lexis Nexis 1996 to currrent date

Link+ ...Books only, from 20+ local universities, three to four days turnaround, free
       
Interlibrary Loan...Books and Articles from anywhere, plan on a week+ turnaround, free
        Your CSUF card is valid at all CSU libraries and local community colleges
