They are also listed under the individual author and title of the thesis. They are shelved on the 6th floor under the general call number LD729 C973 and are arranged by a "cutter" number standing for the academic dept. (H5 for History, M8 for Music, etc.).

Any theses from another institution that the Library might own are cataloged like any other book on PAC.

This interactive website provides national, state and county-level data about Income & Poverty, Housing, Hunger, Military Spending, Energy, Education, Health, and Labor.  The website draws data from many sources, including the US Census, the Consolidated Federal Funds Report, the Current Population Survey, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, permitting users to create reports and tables based on data from 1983 to the present.

 

SELECTED DATA

  • In 2003 Californians paid $227.6 billion in federal income tax, while the state received $219.7 billion in federal expenditures.

  • In 2003 the states with the highest median household income were: New Jersey  - $55,221; Maryland -  $55,213; New Hampshire - $55,166; Alaska - $55,143; and Connecticut - $55,004.

  • In 2003 the states with the highest percentage of their residents without health insurance were: Texas - 23.60%; New Mexico - 21.30%; Louisiana - 18.90%; California - 18.60%; and Oklahoma - 17.50%.

  • In 2001 Wyoming had the highest per-capita gasoline consumption of all states (688 gallons) while the District of Columbia had the lowest (286 gallons).

Where Did They Go? The Decline of Middle-Income Neighborhoods in Metropolitan America (2006) [ Brookings Institute ]  

This report examines the income of families and neighborhoods across the nation using decennial census data going back to 1970. Data is broken down by family income levels and neighborhoods (from very low to very high) among the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the US. 
SELECTED FINDINGS  

  • The number of very low income neighborhoods (50% or less of area median income) in the 100 most populous metro areas increased by more than 300% from 1970 to 2000.

  • The share of middle income neighborhoods in the 100 largest metro areas declined from 31.7% in 1970 to 22.5% in 2000.

  • 37% of lower income families in 2000 lived in middle income neighborhoods, compared to 55% in 1970.

  • The share of very high income families (more than 150% of area median income) among the 100 largest metro areas increased from 23.6% in 1970 to 28.1% in 2000.

  • The Los Angeles - Long Beach metro area experienced a 23.6% decline in middle income neighborhoods from 1970 to 2000.
