Tutorial 1: Locate Books using the Library Catalog

Tips for subject searching in history

Subject searching in the library catalog can powerful because, once you have found a good subject heading for your topic--for example, Women in mass media-United States-20th century--, you can easily find more books on your subject, not only at your local library, but at other libraries as well.

Subject searching can be challenging, too, especially when your perfectly good subject terms aren't those used by the catalog.

Can you guess which subject headings are used in the library catalog?
