What is a style manual?

A style manual is the authoritative source that writers, editors and students consult to check on the proper way to cite sources. Style manuals also provide guidance on grammar, formatting, and punctuation, among many other questions of usage. There are numerous style manuals, but some are mainly associated with certain disciplines.
