The LIBRARY CATALOG is a tool to find books, periodical titles, government documents, audio-visual materials and more, owned by Pollak Library.

ABOUT "FIND BOOKS"

Books in the Pollak Library are classified and shelved by the Library of Congress Classification System which groups books on the shelf together by subject.

However, there are different possible locations of books within Pollak Library, such as Reference, Oversize, 4th Floor South, AVCMC, Government Documents, Special Collections, etc. When viewing a record in the Library Catalog, always note the LOCATION--this tells you the floor where the book is located. TIP: Our Library Catalog's keyword search groups items by relevance.  If you want to see the most recent items first, then select the link to sort by date.  (See below.)

BOOKS:
bulletTake longer to publish than articles -- always check the date of publication!
bulletMight contain compilations & summaries of research
bulletGood sources of background information for a topic
bulletCheck for bibliographies or list of references at the ends of chapter or end of the book
bulletClick on the book graphic -- note location, call number & status

REFERENCE BOOKS:

bullet Print periodical indexes for older newspaper and journal articles
bulletBooks in the Reference section are LIBRARY USE ONLY (they can't leave the Library) or ELECTRONIC.

bulletCrime and victimization surveys
bulletHearings and reports on current events and "hot topics"
bulletMaps

AUDIOVISUAL MATERIALS:

bulletTo find AV materials, limit your Library Catalog search to "Audio Visual Only" and put in your subject or keyword terms

Etc.

bulletNeed something that CSUF doesn't own? You can use Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) - it's free!
bulletDo you need some extra help:  click on Ask A Librarian for several options.
