Before beginning your research, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is your specific topic?
  • How can you describe your topic with keywords or phrases?
  • Do you need current information? Historical information? Both?
  • What types of materials are needed?  Books? Reference materials? Journal or magazine articles?
  • Which style manual is required for citing your sources?

Link to Library Survival Skills for for an overview of the library and the research process.

Link to the CSU Information Competence Project to access tutorials that will help you answer these questions.

Need more help?  There are several ways to get help in doing your research: Come in to the Reference Desk (Library North) and talk to a librarian; Call on the phone; Email; Schedule a Research Appointment; Chat reference 24/7.
