In support of the original Information Literacy initiative of 2001, the Pollak Library remains committed to its collaboration with the faculty and students of PSYC 202 and PSYC 300. Additionally, we support the success of graduate students enrolled in PSYC 501.
Library instruction is also beneficial for students enrolled in other PSYC courses. Faculty from courses such as PSYC 305L, PSYC 341, PSYC 351, and PSYC 481 have scheduled library instruction for their students.
Library instruction offers the opportunity to create relevant and meaningul experiences in developing students' information literacy skills. Careful planning of the assignment and collaboration with Library faculty help students meet the stated outcomes for a given course. Moreover, students will find that customized library instruction prepared in consultation between a Psychology and Library faculty member will minimize the chance of repetition during a given library instruction session, especially since some students will have more than one library instruction session during their studies in the Psychology Department.
Guidelines for creating effective library assignments are available through the Pollak Library and Southern California Instruction Librarians (SCIL), a California Academic & Research Libraries (CARL) interest group.

The Pollak Library Blackboard Toolkit offers you the opportunity to embed the library directly into your Blackboard course, thus providing your students with direct access to a variety of library resources. To learn more about the Blackboard Toolkit, please click here.

Another option for embedding the library into your Blackboard course is to have a librarian create helpful research tools for your students that are available directly on your course site. The images to the left highlight examples of resources that you can make available to your students.

Other Useful Linking Technology
There are convenient ways to provide your students with easy access to course reading material. Two important methods are highlighted in this section.
|
The "Find It" button used within a database to locate an article enables access to an "Advanced" feature. Click on "Advanced" and then on "Create a link for this item." You will be directed to the article link, which can then be copied and pasted into a Web page or Blackboard course site.
|
|
Some databases may offer persistent links to their resources, which you can copy and paste directly into a Web page or Blackboard course site.
|
The Pollak Library's proxy-server URL may be used in front of any of the resource links presented above in order to ensure access to the desired material. This URL is especially helpful if you are experiencing difficulty accessing a particular resource after using the links provided by the above methods. In order to ensure access to a specific resource (e.g., journal article), please consider adding the library's proxy-server URL directly in front of the link in question:
