Human Communication: Library Research Guide

Main Page

Books in the CSUF Library are located on the 4th, 5th, & 6th floors of the South Wing.   Books are arranged on the shelves by "Library of Congress call numbers."  These call numbers do a valuable service: they group books on similar subjects together on the shelf.  For example, all the books on Debating will be near each other.  Here are some common call numbers for Human Communication -related subjects:

P 87-99            Human Communication in general
PN 4111-4121   Oratory, Public speaking
PN 4181              Debate
BF 637              Interpersonal communication
RC423              Communicative disorders
RF290              Audiology

While randomly browsing books on the shelf might be interesting, its not effective when you need to find a specific book.  To do that, use the library's online catalog to look up a book.  Then you'll be able to find the Call number so you can find exactly where you book is located.   You can search the online catalog different ways:

by SUBJECT
example: public speaking

by KEYWORD(S)
example: audiology, career

and by AUTHOR, TITLE, CALL#

Looking especially for books on controversial/debate topics?  If so, visit the Library's quick-guide on controversial/debate topics here.

What if CSUF doesn't own a book you want (or on a topic you want)?  No problem.  You can search and request books from other libraries.  Search:
